The idea of making a scorpion could sound to be a hard one. However, I have used some basic forms ( only cubes and cylinders ) and this project turned to be a simple one. I have only used a few techniques which I will explain further.
I started with a simple cube for the main body and I have re-dimensioned it so it could be bigger. In the tools option I checked the symmetry so all of my moves happen in the both sides. Next, I extruded its front and back faces and I decreased their size. I added some more subdivisions and made the side of the body rounded. After I was satisfied with the shape I have manipulated the vertices for a smoother feel and I moved to the next phase … creating the tail.
The tail needs to be attached to the body so I extruded the back face but first I changed the offset and the thickness to -0.1 and then I extruded it again to create a truncated cone. I have repeated this step for another 5 times and made a wavy feel of the tail. Then I extruded the next part of the tail creating 6 rounded shapes.
After that I created the hand from cylinders, using the symmetry and the extrude tool, I manipulated its form . Next, I created one leg with the same technique and then I duplicated it and modified them so neither one look the same. I selected all the legs and mirrored them and, after that I created the head using 2 cylinders.
Finally I deleted all the history and I combined all the parts of the body and I smoothed it out.
