Semester 2 - week 9 - exploring tonal values
Those are some sketches made after some models at the Royal Armories in Leeds. The focus is on the tonal values that are showing how the light and shadows are working and how because of them the audience can guess which material it is. I have chose some metal textures because the lights/shadows are the most visible on them.
The drawings were made on a brown coloured paper with black and white conte crayons. Those helped me to make quick sketches and to show how the light is shining on this material.
The first drawing from the left has the focal point at the top in the middle because of the white contrasting the grays and it't then driving the eye to the bottom where the lines are driving the eyes back to the top.
The second drawing has some interesting lights and shadows on the arms that are describing the form, as well the contrast between black/white.
The third drawing representing a mask doesn't have a really good idea of a 3d form but has a powerful feeling of 3 dimensional at the left horn.
